Hitting the Road for Memorial Day?

We all know that Memorial Day means summer is on its way in, and everyone is heading to the beach! For a successful long weekend you will need a few things to keep your vacay from trending into a snooze-cruise! These are my top five things that will keep your weekend fun and upbeat!

5. CD’s- The music will keep the good times rolling even when you are stopped in traffic! If you bring a few feel good CD’s, your car will be jumpin’ and jivin’ all the way to the beach. Traffic is the complete opposite of fun, but you can create a sing-a-long in the car with your pals and have a great time, even if you are in stopped traffic! You could turn on some old school jams and enjoy, or listen to the newer hits of today. A few of my personal recommendations are anything by Michael Jackson, Karmin’s album “Hello,” and Katy Perry’s album “Teenage Dream Delux Edition.” Although, If you have a young child in the car, remember to listen to kid-friendly music and clean song versions only!

4. A Cooler Full of Tasty Delights- Pack up the cooler with hot dogs, corn on the cob and the soda for the weekend! A great picnic is key for a beach day, so instead of buying pricey food at the boardwalk or from a street vendor—bring your own and get fancy with it! To stray out of the norm, you can make homemade guacamole and onion dip and store it in your cooler in addition to the classic eats! In your cooler, don’t forget to include water bottles, too! Dehydration is completely preventable if you have extra water with you to hydrate everyone with!

3. Sunscreen- Because no one likes to get burned while at the beach, take precautionary measures and put on sunscreen before you get out on the beach. Keep re-applying the sunscreen while outside, especially if you go in the ocean. I always bring SPF 30 with me every time I go to the beach, and if I do not get burned the first day that I am outside than I keep using the SPF30—although if I do get burned, I will be the first one to buy a higher SPF. If you get burned, always use aloe after your sun session to cool your burn off!

2. Shovel and Pale- Act like a five year old and enjoy your beach time by creating a larger than life sandcastle! If you loved doing it when you were younger, I bet you still have it in you to create a great sandcastle, that you can take pictures of and have memories of for a lifetime. With your shovel and pale you can also bury a friend in the sand, or make a lounge chair made entirely out of sand! You can pretend to be a professional sand artist and see what you come up with!

1. Your Family and Close Friends- You can have all the beach toys, picnic food, and music that you want; but nothing is better than being on the beach with your family and close friends! Enjoy your long weekend, and time in the sun when you and your family and pals relax and have fun in the sun!
